No matter who you are or what you're experiencing, Second Harvest is here to help.
What
Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee is a Feeding America food bank designed to alleviate hunger in our community.
You may have heard the words "food bank" or "food pantry," but what do they really mean?
A food bank is a nonprofit that receives and then safely stores food before distributing it to hunger relief partners, from schools to churches to food pantries. Food pantries are the locations where this food is shared with the community.

How
For every $1 donated, 3 meals are provided.
- Food and funds are donated from grocery stores, corporate sponsors, community food drives, and individuals.
- Resources are collected; food is donated to and purchased by Second Harvest.
- Volunteers sort, evaluate and repackage food that comes into the warehouse.
- Resources and food are then distributed to 630+ partner agencies, like food pantries, schools, community centers, and churches.
- Food is distributed from the agencies to the hands of our East Tennessee neighbors experiencing hunger.
More than 230,000 East Tennesseans are at risk of hunger, uncertain where their next meal will come from. At Second Harvest Food Bank, we are trying to change that statistic in 18 East Tennessee counties.
