Halloween brings spooky costumes and haunted houses — but in homes across East Tennessee, something even more frightening is lurking: hunger.
Right now, 1 in 6 people in our community are at risk of hunger. Like a scary story come to life, families are trapped by rising costs and forced to choose between groceries, housing, and other basic needs.
Here’s the good news — hunger is easy to scare off when generosity shows up at their door. Take a look at what people in the community are doing to help their neighbors scare away hunger.
Spooky Volunteers
Our Morgan County community showed up in style to serve 300 households at our monthly Mobile Pantry.
Festive Food Drives
The folks of Foothills Church in Blount County came together to collect 1,183 pounds of food — that’s 985 meals for East Tennessee!
No Tricks, Just Trucks
The holidays don’t slow us down — have you seen our trucks out on the road this fall?
Fall Harvest Market
Second Harvest provided produce for UT students at their annual Fall Harvest Market.
Warehouse Work
The pumpkin totes you see in grocery stores make their way into our warehouse via deliveries!
Hunger is frightening, but with help from the community, we can ensure that East Tennesseans experiencing food insecurity receive the support they need to live nourished lives.
A donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee helps provide nutritious meals to families just in time for the holidays. Whether you choose to contribute with a donation of food, funds, your precious time, or simply spreading the word — together, we can scare away hunger. To see how you can help, please click here.
