National Ag Week

It is National Ag Week!

National Ag Week was celebrated this past week, March 18-24, by the Agriculture Council of America (ACA). This annual campaign increases awareness in communities across the country in an effort to recognize and celebrate the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.

The National Ag Day program actively encourages every American to:

  1. Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
  2. Value the vital role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
  3. Appreciate the ways in which agriculture proves safe and affordable products.

This occasion offers producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies, nonprofits, and countless others a time to prioritize America’s farmlands. Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use, and wear each day, and is increasingly contributing to fuel and other bio-products. As the world population inclines, there is an ever-increasing demand for food, fiber, and renewable resources. National Ag Week helps to educate millions of consumers each year.

We at Second Harvest are incredibly appreciative of the constant hope and health that agriculture yields in the communities we serve. If you want to further the message of National Ag Week, there are ways you can help! You can participate in establishing policies that support the competitive agriculture industry by writing to local and state representatives. You can promote agricultural literacy by informing others of agriculture’s history and current economic, social and environmental significance in our daily lives. Last but not least, just hug the next farmer you see.
