Volunteers postponed through November 16

Statement from Thursday, October 15:

Out of an abundance of caution, for the safety and health of Second Harvest staff, agencies and clients, volunteer opportunities from Thursday, October 15 through Monday, November 16 are postponed. In order to still meet the increased need of partner agencies and East Tennesseans, Second Harvest staff members will continue to sort donated items and pack food boxes. This process allows Second Harvest to continue meeting the need in this community with consistent, reliable staff members while practicing social distancing and doing our part in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

After November 16, regular volunteer shifts may resume, but at this time, it is to be determined. It was not easy to come to this decision, as volunteers are some of the best assets Second Harvest has. We are grateful for the volunteer support, but we want to be sure we are socially responsible and can continue to show up in the best way for our clients and pantries who are in great need during these unprecedented times.
If you are scheduled to volunteer on any of these dates, we thank you for your volunteerism – Tennessee is the Volunteer State after all. And we hope to have you in our warehouse soon!
